There have been reports of dehumidifier units experiencing overheating, emitting smoke, or catching fire.
Gree has not yet received any reported serious injuries associated with these 42 recalled dehumidifiers.
No. Those reported deaths potentially involved dehumidifier models previously recalled in 2013. For details on that recall please visit https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2013/gree-recalls-12-brands-of-dehumidifiers.
Gree recalled different dehumidifier models in 2013 and 2023. If you believe your dehumidifier unit may be affected by either recall please compare the model number on the product nameplate to the list of affected model numbers in both recall announcements, which can be accessed at:

Sorry, we cannot reimburse any consumer that does not provide us with the return kit that includes (1) a cut-off portion of the power cord containing the electrical plug; (2) the power cord warning label; and (3) the product nameplate label (or a photo showing the product nameplate label and the cut power cord and warning label) with the model number, date code, and serial number of their unit.
Unplug the unit from electricity and drain the reservoirs before cutting the cord. Once these safety precautions have been completed, the cord can be cut with either wire cutters or another instrument such as household scissors that will cut through the entire cord with ease. Make sure to cut and return the portion of the cord containing both the warning label and electrical plug. Additional guidelines are available here.
